MULCHING AND SELECTIVE VEGETATION REMOVAL

  • Fire Breaks
  • Power Line Clearing
  • Selective Clearing
  • Benefits

Ecoclearing have been industry leaders in the mulching and removal of invasive woody weeds and regrowth, priding ourselves on selectively mulching non-desirable vegetation.

We have a variety of machines in size and horse power to carry out different styles of works.  Some machines are rubber tracked (
see PT-100) for minimal ground disturbance.

  Fire Breaks

With the director of the company having a good experience in the Rural Fire Service, serving for approximately 10 years of active duty, we have a good understanding of the requirements on the fire ground. In past years we have seen dozers carve in firebreaks leaving a path of destruction e.g. siltation problems and also large wind rows of potential fire hazards to follow. Our machinery can quickly mulch in a fire break, disconnect the mulcher, connect a dozer blade and scrape a bare earth fire break without creating an expensive mess to clean up after the fire has passed. Due to the size of the machine and the emphasis placed on the RFS, understanding the response necessary, Ecoclearing is prepared to “down tools” and go anywhere when required.

Also in our arsenal for Fire Fighting we have a Log Skidder (refer Camphor Laurel Removal and Camphor Laurel Machinery) which is extremely effective on the fire ground to push in quick fire breaks.  It can travel around a fire ground freely as it has large pneumatic tyres and is conditionally registered.

As the machines can be moved (floated) on the back of a double axle truck this operation is extremely swift. (Refer to benefits list).

Radiation zones; obviously prevention is better than cure and track machines provide a great fuel reduction tool. (Refer to benefits list).

  Power Line Clearing

This has never been so cost effective using modern machinery to carry out small and large power line clearing. Due to the nature of power lines and the extreme terrain in which power lines are located, Ecoclearing has researched and purchased the most extreme machines to access this hazardous country in a safe and productive manner.

Some features of the machines are as follows:
  • Extreme low centre of gravity
  • As the machines can be moved (floated) on the back of a double axle truck this operation is extremely swift.
  • Steel tracks
  • Large hydraulic winches enabling the machine to be winched into remote areas or material to be winched to the machine.

We also have rubber tracked mulchers enabling access over bitumen, up driveways and through backyards. Leaving only a memory of our visit, not a mess.

Ecoclearing can also provide a 15tonne excavator with a log grab, fella buncher (tree cutter), mulching head and various buckets (see Mulching Machinery). This machine combined with a dozer blade and fella buncher provides an excellent tool for corridor widening and tree trimming. This machine is a highly efficient and safe way of clearing up power line corridors.

Also available is our 24t Excavator with Pulpmate 360 degree rotating head (see Camphor Laurel Machinery). This machine has a chainsaw bar that can clean cut through a 900mm tree trunk and control the tree and its decent to the ground. This machine gets through a phenomenal amount of work.

Ecoclearing has a track mounted 700 hp chipper which has a infeed of 40 x 36 inches. This is one of Australia’s largest track mounted chippers and can produce up to 60 tonne per hour. It is very cost effective in new corridor easements and land clearing operations.

Track Mounted Spray Tank; this spray tank has the unique feature of individually activated spray nozzles, covering a 6m reach being able to spray a power line clearance in 2-3 passes. With the advent of the singularly activated spray nozzles, a corridor can be mulched then sprayed only spraying the re-growth, e.g. trees, leaving the grass. The pressurised air conditioned tank which the operator sits in is a very safe environment, minimalising the occupational risks by traversing the ground by foot, increasing the chance of snake bite, broken ankle etc.
All operators are ticketed for this work and hold chainsaw tickets as well.

Selective Clearing

With the versatility and power of track mulching machines we are able to selectively clear rubbish regrowth cost effectively with precise accuracy. This process then leaves a site ready for grassing or replanting, whilst then using the waste material left on site to become mulch and good biomass for soil.

The use of rubbish vegetation instead of burning and wasting this valuable resource is beneficial due to:
  • reduction of soil disturbance
  • reduction in loss of topsoil
  • reduction in occurrence of erosion
  • cost savings

One project that was extremely sensitive was a Sand Dune re-vegetation project in the sand dune of Salt Village Northern NSW. The project required specific tree’s to be left whilst mulching on unstable sand dunes. This required the rubber-tracked mulching machine to carry out delicate operations minimalising impact on the ground.

Benefits Of Using Our Mulching Equipment:

    • No expensive and dangerous chemicals required
    • No fire hazards i.e. stockpiled timber
    • No burning required eliminating unwanted timbers
    • No soil disturbance
    • No erosion as all selected vegetation and timber is mulched and retained on the ground to protect soil and help retain moisture levels.
    • Mulch breaks down providing nutrients for remaining vegetation
    • Eliminates transport handling and disposal costs to remove timber and vegetation to landfill.
    • Very cost efficient
    • Faster processing not limited by soft ground or sloping terrain
    • Large unwanted dangerous trees are quickly handled using our mulchers
    • No remaining vegetation damage
    • Reduces potentially dangerous fire fuels
